Bill 115 and what it means to the ESA – ESA School Council – Jan 15 at 7:30 PM in the library

Last week, Education Minister Laurel Broten invoked Bill 115 to impose non-negotiated contracts on all public school teachers in Ontario. These contracts are based on those developed earlier in 2012 between the province and the English Catholic boards, and involve freezing wages as well as reducing sick leave and retirement benefits.  In the fall, after Bill 115 was passed, the provincial unions instructed their membership to carry out a number of sanctions, including withdrawal from providing voluntary activities.  The imposition of a contract renders some forms of protest (such as striking) illegal, but that does not extend to extra curricular activities.  Extra curricular activities are a key part of the way ESA works to contribute to the success of the students here.

This Tuesday, the School Council will be joined by Trustee Pamela Gough to review the implications of imposing contracts to the teachers and students of the school.

All parents and students are welcome to join us for this discussion.

If anyone has any questions or specific concerns they would like to be addressed by Trustee Gough, please send them to the School Council Chair, Simon Anderson by clicking here.
