Week 2 of National Poetry Month has come to a close.

For Week 3 we are pleased to announce a number of Poetry Contests – with approaching deadlines – that students are encouraged to enter. Of particular note are:
- The Ontario Book Publisher’s Organistion’s What’s Your Story? Short Prose and Poetry Competition for Emerging Writers (due May 1st)
- subTerranian’s 15th Annual Lush Triumphant Literary Award (due May 15th)
- Tethered by Letters Poetry Contest (due June 1st)… and also Short Story and Flash Fiction, with variable due dates
- Antigonish Review Great Blue Heron Poetry Contest (due June 30th)… and also the Sheldon Currie Fiction Prize
- The CBC Poetry Prize (due May 31st)
- Aspiring Canadian Poets Contest (due June 1st)
- The Barbara Mandigo Kelly Peace Poetry Prize (due July 1st)
- The Poetry Institute of Canada Young Writers and All Ages Poetry Contests (due July 31st)
These are but a sampling of poetry – and related – writing contests which are open throughout the year and welcome student submissions. For a full inventory, and additional information about these and other contests, please refer to this shared Google Doc (mostly updated for this year!!)

REMEMBER also to enter the 4th Annual ESA Library Student Poetry Contest.
Poems must:
- be on the theme of time;
- be titled;
- not have been previously published;
- be formatted for 8.5″ x 11″ paper; and,
- be no longer than 50 lines.
All entries must be submitted by no later than Friday April 28th.
- Entries should be submitted via e-mail to Ms. Wray, in the Library.

The top three entries will each receive a collection of poetry, as well as publication on the ESsays Creative Writing Blog.
- Publication in, and a personal copy of, the print edition of ESsays is also included.
