Art Camps 2016 at Etobicoke School of the Arts
There are two camps being offered this July:
ART CAMP:
For people entering ESA and those interested in what we are doing
July 4-8, 9am to 2.30pm
Students entering ESA Visual Art in September 2016 and people interested in discovering how we approach Visual Art are invited to enrol.
We welcome all new students to ESA – the camp is especially good for people entering the program the following September – and we are happy to work with anyone thinking of preparing to Audition for ESA in January 2017. Space priority will be given to those entering our program in September 2016.
Future grade nine students appreciate the opportunity to become acquainted with their classmates, practice travelling to the school, familiarize themselves within our environment, get a sense of some of the expectations of esava, experiment with a wide variety of materials and process and approaches, and be introduced to a condensed version of our best in world program. It is really fun and we make some great work.
Art Camp has proven to ease anxieties around the transition to high school. This is a great way to make friends and begin to feel at home. For those not coming to esava in September, it is a wonderful opportunity to meet some great people and have some in-depth art making experiences.
We will promote an understanding of contemporary art, artists, and art practice. Participants will begin several projects, develop skills in speaking about their work and exchanging ideas during critiques, experiment with materials, and look at contemporary art.
This camp will feature a version of the process that has resulted in world leading results in attracting scholarships for grade 12 students at Etobicoke School of the Arts and consistently winning more Scholastic International Regional Art Awards than any country in the world – 53.4% of total awards in 2016. This spring we have students exhibiting in London UK, Buffalo NY, Toronto, and New York City. Camp is a great way to begin this intense and exciting process.
All materials included.
PAINTING CAMP:
Oil Painting Studio Intensive
July 11-15, 9am to 2.30pm
This week is designed to share a love of or develop an interest in and experience with painting. Painting Camp could be seen as a logical extension of Art Camp.
We will begin several paintings, each using a different process to provide structure to a fascinating and often frustrating experience. There is, of course, no right way to paint, so this week will provide participants with strategies and experience and knowledge that will help them find their own approach to painting.
Painting Camp will reflect some of the award winning ways of esava, and provide participants the opportunity to spend a concentrated number of hours over five days focused on their work in the ESA studios reflecting what it might be like to have a full time studio experience. We will also look at and discuss a variety of paintings to learn what we can from others. This is a rare opportunity to experience studio life in a dedicated block of time.
Painting Camp may be best suited for those who are comfortable working for long stretches and focusing on developing skills. As this is a new camp, minimum registration numbers will need to be met before it is confirmed as running.
All materials included.
