Impressive!! Fundraisers for Syrian Refugees

On the last day of school before the winter break, the ESA community submitted a cheque to Red Cross Canada for an impressive $6,500! This money was matched by the Government of Canada to support Syrian Refugees in Canada…meaning that ESA was able to generate $13,000 for this very worthy cause. (An additional $1,000 was submitted after the New Year). This money was raised by Arts Showcase (at their show, Shelter), Seeds Me to We (Bake Sales and other projects), and the Social Justice classes (through a small group assignment that was focused on raising awareness as well as funds for this crisis). Students also collected winter coats and hats and scarves as well as food for the Christie Refugee Centre.  Finally, students also gathered over a number of days to discuss our understanding of (and reactions to) the crisis in the Middle East. We’ll be looking at other ways to support these new Canadians as the year progresses.

These groups and all the students, staff and family who came out to support them are great examples of how ESA supports our community.

Way to go ESA!
