In the midst of a wet and cold Toronto winter, escape to warm shifting sands of 9th century Baghdad with this year’s Mainstage production of Tales from The Arabian Nights. Directed by Sia Katsoupa, this one act production carries its audience in the kingdom of Shahryar: a bitter king who casts a murderous vengeance on all women due the infidelity of his queen. We witness Scheherezade, daughter of Shahryar’s chief assistant, weave a carpet of riveting stories in an attempt to prolong her life and win a stay of her assured death sentence.
Through a series of challenges and hurdles during this tumultuous school year for students and staff alike, the actors, director and stage managers have continued to rehearse and produce this captivating production.
