SAATCHI GALLERY – Opening this Tuesday featuring work by our own Pia Graham
The Saatchi Gallery / Deutsche Bank Art Prize for Schools received over 20,000 entries this year, from this 20 art works have now been selected for the exhibition which will take place 28 April – 4 May at the Saatchi Gallery. The winners will be announced on the evening of the 28th April 2015.
The Saatchi Gallery / Deutsche Bank Art Prize for Schools is open to primary, secondary and sixth form schools from around the world. Schools can submit art work from students between the ages of 4 and 18.
Schools can enter as many art works as they wish, and there is no prescribed theme for works entered, nor is there a restriction on media used (sculpture, painting, installation, photography and mixed media art works are all eligible and welcome).
A first prize of £10,000 will be awarded to the winning school’s art department, with a further £2,000 given to the winning pupil to be spent on art and computer equipment. Two further runner-up prizes of £5,000 each will be awarded to the second and third placed schools, with a further £1,000 to each of the winning pupils.
The panel of judges for this year’s Prize include Lauren Child MBE, writer, illustrator and creator of ‘Charlie and Lola’; Catherine Goodman, Artistic Director of The Royal Drawing Schools; Alistair Hicks, Art Advisor to Deutsche Bank; Nigel Hurst, CEO of the Saatchi Gallery and Richard Wilson, Artist whose work includes 20:50 which is on permanent display at the Saatchi Gallery.
The Prize is part of the Saatchi Gallery’s education programme which is committed to introducing contemporary art to younger audiences.
