Lyric soprano, Jennifer Taverner is quickly becoming recognized for her instinctive musicality, excellent stage presence, and “lovely, silvery tone”. While studying at the Glenn Gould School, she won the 2010 Royal Conservatory Orchestra’s Concerto Competition, singing Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915, and performed the same work with the Royal Conservatory Orchestra, under the baton of Johannes Debus, of the Canadian Opera Company. Ms. Taverner has held two consecutive vocal fellowships at the prestigious Tanglewood Music Center. Performances there included a concert with mezzo-soprano Susan Graham and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, as well as a concert version of Stravinsky’s Les Noces, conducted by Charles Dutoit. In 2012, Ms. Taverner was a semi-finalist in both the Montreal International Music Competition, and the New York Oratorio Society’s Lyndon Woodside Competition. An accomplished concert soloist, Ms. Taverner has performed with such organizations as the Elmer Iseler Singers, Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, Hamilton Philharmonic, Bach Elgar Choir, Toronto Classical Singers, Soundstreams, and the Off Centre Salon. Operatic roles include Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Noémie in Massenet’s Cendrillon, Laurette in Bizet’s Le Docteur Miracle, and Female Chorus in Britten’s Rape of Lucretia. In spring of 2013, she sang the role of Fiordiligi in a touring production of Cosi fan Tutte with Jeunesses Musicales Canada. Highlights of her 2014-2015 season include Messiah (Grand Philharmonic Choir, Cellar Singers), Rose in Kurt Weill’s Street Scene (Voicebox: Opera in Concert), an evening of Gilbert & Sullivan (Niagara Symphony), Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle (Bach Elgar Choir), and a recital featuring the music of Jean Coulthard at the Canadian Music Centre.
