The audience for The Three Musketeers will experience a wonderful treat and escape this coming Wednesday, Thursday and Friday – April 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the Nancy Main Auditorium. Peter Raby’s adaptation of Alexandre Dumas novel The Three Musketeers is a fast-paced and exhilarating journey into another time and world.
Set in the 17th century, The Three Musketeers is the story of a young man named d’Artagnan who leaves home to travel to Paris to fulfill his dream of joining the famed Musketeers of the Guard. The musketeers of the title are his friends Athos, Porthos and Aramis. These three musketeers are inseparable friends who live by the motto “all for one, one for all” (“tous pour un, un pour tous”).
Alexandre Dumas wrote The Three Musketeers when he was a practising fencer. Like many other French gentlemen of his generation, he attended prominent fencing schools.
In 2014, the cast members in the ESA Drama Department production have had the opportunity to channel some of Dumas’ enthusiasm for fencing. Since mid-October, cast members have had the privilege to study with professional fight instructor John Stead, and his incredible team of instructors, who have choreographed the many fights that take place during the production. The students have been given an opportunity rarely offered to non-professional actors. This access and coaching has led to some impressive results and has given the students a real understanding of the work involved in extensive stage combat.
The Three Musketeers runs from Wed. April 2nd to Fri. April 4th at 7pm in the Nancy Main Auditorium at ESA. Tickets are $24 for adults and $14 for students.
