Wed May 6th: Spring Walk and Roll to School

Wednesday May 6th… Leave the car at home!   Get yourself moving!

The United Nations has declared May 4th to 10th, 2015 as Global Road Safety Week with a focus on children as vulnerable road users. This coincides with an annual public awareness campaign called Safe Kids Week, this year featuring a cycling and road safety theme.

ESA is participating in Safe Kids Week/Global Road Safety Week by hosting a Spring Walk and Roll to School Day on Wednesday, May 6th.

On May 6th, families are encouraged to leave the car at home to promote an active, healthy, environmentally-friendly, and safe trip to school.  Your means of getting to school could include walking, cycling, roller blading, skateboarding –anything that gets you moving!

Students who are spotted rolling to school on Wednesday (anything with wheels that doesn’t use fossil fuels) will be given tickets for a special draw, prizewinners to be announced at the end of the week.

Walking and rolling to school is about creating a greater sense of community, enhancing the safety of school neighbourhoods, being kind to the environment and our bodies, and simply having fun.
