The Story of Owen by EK Johnston
- Oh my. Magical, wonderful, lyrical, fun and delightful.
- This is the most pure fun I’ve had reading a book for a while.
- Set in a fictionalised version of Goderich Ontario, the story takes place all up and down the shoreline of Lake Huron, and up to Manitoulin Island… Kincardine, Southampton, and more… all familiar places to me.
- And not only do you get the great story and characters, but the way that “real” history, geography, politics and more are woven into the storyline is just brilliant.
- Much as I’m excited about a bunch of the other books – by some of my favourite Canadian YA authors – on this year’s White Pine list, it’s going to be hard to top this.
- And don’t worry. When you’re done this, we’ve already got the sequel in.
