Woohoo to WoCo and Glo! A newsletter addendum

Due to editing issues, the year end reports for WoCo and Glo were omitted from the newsletter. Glo had a fantastic year, performing at a variety of in and out of school events, including numerous professional gigs, performing a variety of current and vintage pop tunes for women’s voices. Thanks to Janine Hogg for her leadership of the ensemble this year.

And hearty congratulations go out to the members of ESA’s women’s choir WoCo (under director David Ambrose), who placed second in their category of the National Choral Competition for Amateur Choirs. This competition is the most prestigious choral competition in the country, with hundreds of entrants from across the country submitting recordings for adjudication. WoCo was announced as a finalist in early June, and the top prizes were announced at the Festival 500 International Choral Festival in St. John’s, Newfoundland on Thursday. These young women are to be commended for their hard work, commitment and talent – congratulations on your well-deserved success! This capped a great year which included performances at regular school concerts and full participation in the Dance Department’s production of Superstar as both singers and dancers. Their contribution added a new and effective layer to the storytelling of this great production. They also enjoyed working with renowned Canadian composer Eleanor Daley as they prepared one of her works. She had high praise for the ensemble, comparing them favourably to internationally renowned choral ensembles.

Congratulations for a great year to both of our women’s ensembles!
