On Tuesday, October 22, over 100 ESA Civics students attended the Youth Philanthropy Initiative Forum at the Sony Centre.
Our grade 10 Civics students have just begun to research the needs of our local community and are in the process of identifying a local social service charity that they believe is the best place to make a positive contribution.
Student teams are going to build relationships with the charities and learn about the operations. They will give a presentation on the reasons why their proposed charity is most deserving of support. The group judged to have the most compelling and thoughtful presentation will win a $5000 grant to award their charity.
At the forum, our students heard presentations from Warren Coughlin (Givers Gain: How to Live a Life with Purpose), Dave Meslin (Antidotes to Apathy), and Alvin Law (A World of Possibilities).
Students were also treated to inspirational performances from cast of We Will Rock You and Rock of All Ages; a former Canadian Idol; recording artist JRDN; and ESA’s very own Glo!
